Joyce Country Challenge Proposal
3rd weekend of July 07, 21st or 22nd

Dear Members,
Following a proposal at the AGM that the Club organise a walking event in 07, those members who have taken part in challenge events in other parts of the country have come up with the following. Please read and consider whether you are willing to give your support ie time to this event, as this will determine whether we will go ahead.

THE JOYCE COUNTRY CHALLENGE

Walk 1 Self-Navigated
30km with 1879m of Ascent to a maximum height of 680m
Starting in Finny the route would take walkers up Skeltia to Maumtrasna cairn at 673m.Walkers would then follow what is marked on OSmap 38 as the county line to the Devils Mother 645m.Then south along the ridge to 509m and on down to 251m
Then follow the river to the road at Ail Dubh, then climbing Currarevagh 414m,on to Bunnacuneen 575m. And on to the ridge at Ben Beg and on to Lecarrow and Bencoragh and meet the road at the Finny River and back to the village to finish

Walk 2 Self Navigated and Lead.
25km with 1568m Ascent to a maximum of 682m.
The same as Route 1 until walkers reach the cairn 682 at the top of Benwee/Leynabricka. From here they descend the ridge to the Larches pub. Then follow the road until rejoining Route 1 at Ail Dubh.

To run this Challenge would take a big effort from members of the club, as we would require people for the following.

A) Walk Leaders
B) Sign in, Start / Finish
C) Check Points
D) Food/Water Stops
E) Walk Sweepers
F) Safety officers

Having read the above could you contact me if you are willing to commit to helping with the event?
A decision on this will have to be taken by the end of this month so a reply A.S.A.P. would be appreciated
